This work symbolizes Hoogendijk’s personal journey and her ability to see both sides of a situation. The piece pays homage to British artist Damien Hirst, known for his exploration of mortality. Hoogendijk’s “Ode to Damien” captures the stark contrast between existence and the inevitable end, urging viewers to contemplate their own choices and the dual nature of life. Each stone placed on the woman represents a phase she has yet to experience, embedding the young woman with her future experiences until the end of life.
