In 2019, Micky Hoogendijk created “The Art of Love,” a series of twelve photographs and a short film that delve into the theme of self-love and vulnerability. 

“The state of love and bliss is not just found in others but for her in nature”

Hoogendijk believes that true love for others begins with self-love—caring for oneself as one would for another. This series presents Hoogendijk as her own muse, emphasizing the importance of self-acceptance and openness.

In “The Art of Love,” Hoogendijk exposes herself physically and emotionally, convinced that complete openness is necessary to connect deeply with others. Inspired by Marianne Williamson’s words, quoted by Nelson Mandela, about embracing one’s light and potential, Hoogendijk strives to reveal her true self without shame. This series highlights the intimate connection between artist, subject, and viewer, creating a ‘magical energy’ that transcends the physical artwork.

The collaboration with Dutch filmmaker and photographer Frits de Beer resulted in photographs and a film shot on the beaches of the Netherlands and the Balearic Islands. The series features Hoogendijk moving freely with nature, embodying the themes of love, strength, and vulnerability. The titles of the photographs, such as “The Source,” “Baptism,” and “Free Fall,” poetically narrate a journey of emotional depth and personal growth.

“The Art of Love” challenges societal notions of nudity and vulnerability, presenting the naked body as a symbol of ultimate freedom and self-expression. Hoogendijk’s work encourages viewers to embrace their own vulnerabilities and find strength in self-love, making this series a powerful testament to her artistic vision and emotional authenticity.
